Public Health Response Committee

Mandate

To develop a response plan including decision making models, communication strategies, scenarios, etc., that will be applied efficiently and effectively by the President (delegated to the Provost and Vice-President Academic) if the University of Alberta has a sudden public health crisis.* The current phenomenon of concern is the Avian Flu.

* A public health crisis is characterized by a severe threat to personal health and safety which may result in death, occurs over a period of time, involves partnering of a number of sectors within and external to the University and may result in the closure of parts or even the entire University.

Terms of Reference

  1. To identify all leads, area of responsibility, and sectors affected by the public health event.
  2. To cross over with the Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Committee.
  3. To examine the WHO check list for preparedness planning.
  4. To develop and test a response plan whereby all those concerned know what to do and in what order.
  5. To determine how to enhance the current health of the University community; be aware, be prepared, and be active.
  6. Recommendations will be processed through the university governance system and to develop policies and procedures.
