Traffic Disruption for Olympic Torch Relay - Wednesday, January 13 The Olympic Torch pep rally and relay being held on 87th Ave. Wednesday, Jan. 13 will mean some road closures and traffic disruptions for drivers. A section of 87th Ave. between 114th and 116th streets will be completely closed to vehicular traffic from 4 to 6 p.m. During that time, access to and exit from the U of A’s Jubilee Car Park and surface lot, Education Car Park, Stadium Car Park and Varsity Lot, and Windsor Car Park may be significantly delayed. Drivers wanting to leave campus during this event have the following options:
The two lanes of 87th Ave. on the north side of the street will remain open—one lane eastbound, one lane westbound—except for the section between 114th and 116th streets. As a result, a driver could, for example, exit Stadium Car Park and turn right on 87th Ave.; however, drivers are encouraged to avoid 87th Ave. altogether to avoid congestion and the rolling closure of intersections as the torch relay progresses. Limited visitor parking will be available, but road closures and heavy traffic may make access difficult. People coming to campus before or during this event are strongly encouraged to take public transit. Health Sciences-Jubilee is the LRT station closest to the Torch Relay and pep rally. Bus services will remain uninterrupted. |
