The national memorial service to honour the four slain RCMP officers will be held on Thursday, March 10 from 1-3pm in the University of Alberta Butterdome. Public seating is limited and overflow seating is arranged for U of A main gym and Clare Drake Arena. Butterdome doors open at 10:30 and close at 12:45pm with service to begin at 1pm.
Getting to the Service and Parking Restrictions
There will be no shuttle bus service. Parking on campus is limited and staff, faculty, students and the public are asked to take public transit on Thursday. Visitor parking will be restricted to those attending the memorial service.
Jubilee, Varsity and Physical Education East parking lots will be closed to permit holders all day on Thursday. Jubilee and Varsity monthly permits will be honoured in both Windsor and Lot L, subject to space availability. All commuters should expect delays as campus traffic is expected to be extremely heavy on Thursday.
Police officers will line up near Emily Murphy Park about 10:30am for the parade to the U of A campus for the memorial service for the four slain RCMP officers. Road closures are as follows:
- 87th Avenue between 114 Street and 117 Street from 10:30am - 3:30pm;
- 116 Street between 87 Avenue and Emily Murphy Park from 9am to noon;
- Emily Murphy Park Road from 9am to 1pm.
