Competitive athletics
U of A is home to the Golden Bears (men’s) and Pandas (women’s) competitive sports teams.
U of A is the only school in Canada to have won a national championship in all 11 team sports. Also, U of A ranks second on the academic All Canadian list of students who are national all-stars in their sport and in the classroom.
We are the only school with such a high number of Academic All-Canadians and national championships.
Most Golden Bears and Pandas teams are a part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) organization and compete against other CIS teams in Canada. U of A is also a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and competes in the Royal Canadian Golf Association.
Attending a U of A sports event is a great way to meet new people and cheer on our athletes! Come and join us, along with our mascots: GUBA, the Great University Bear of Alberta, and Patches the Panda.
U of A’s athletic facilities rank among the best in Canada and offer gymnasiums, running tracks, climbing walls, ice rinks, pools, indoor courts, dance studios, and more.
