What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is the delivery of health services, expertise, and information across distances using information and communications technology. It enables clinical consultation, research, evaluation, professional education and health management by overcomming barriers such as geography, transportation and socio-economic disparity.

What is Telerehabilitation?

Telerehabilitation is the provision of rehabilitation intervention, education, training and support using the Telehealth infrastructure.

Who uses Telehealth/Telerehabilitation?

Telehealth is used by patients, clinicians, and healthcare managers. Clinical Telehealth is often used by patients who are unable to recieve health services in their local community. This may occur for any number of reasons, such as: distance of patient from a healthcare facility, limited local access to comprehensive medical rehabilitation, lack of trained clinicians in the area, or mobility impairments. Telehealth can be provided to remote or underserved populations.

Where is Telehealth/Telerehabilitation available?

Telehealth is available at most hospitals and health care centres throughout Alberta. Telehealth can also be connected to other centres with video conferencing/internet capabilities; such as: Universities, government centres, schools, and business.
