R – Remove those in immediate danger if safe to do so.
E – Ensure the room door is shut when you leave.
A – Activate the fire alarm
C - Call 911 for Edmonton Fire Department.
T – Try to extinguish the fire if you are trained and it is safe to do so
General fire safety measures
Practice fire prevention: stay alert to fire and life safety hazards in your work area.

Always report a fire condition or a condition that threatens the safety of building occupants.

Know the location of emergency exits.

Know the location of portable fire extinguishers and fire alarm pull stations and how to use them in an emergency.

Do not use the elevator in the event of a fire emergency.

Follow the instructions of the emergency responders.

Evacuate immediately when you hear the fire alarm signal.

Go to your emergency assembly area and be accounted for by the Floor Officer

Do not re-enter the building or permit others to re-enter the building until the “all clear” has been clearly communicated.
Using a portable fire extinguisher
P – Pull the retaining pin at the top of the extinguisher.
A – Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire.
S – Squeeze the handle completely.
S – Sweep the extinguisher from side to side across the base of the fire. Sweep slightly beyond the fire area with each pass. Once the fire is out wait before leaving the area in case the fire re-ignites.
