 The University of Alberta is pleased to be hosting the second annual Canadian Summit on the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning in Edmonton from May 4 - 6, 2006. The purpose of the Summit is to bring together major Canadian and other international universities for discussion about the integration of teaching and research as a fundamental pillar of the undergraduate learning environment.
The value of further integrating teaching and research at universities is an important issue facing the development of higher education in Canada. Over the past ten years there has been an increase in the amount of research conducted on the link between teaching and research. This has resulted in a greater understanding and acceptance of the importance of integrating teaching and research as part of our undergraduate curricula, and this topic is of interest to an increasing number of institutions.
