One of Canada’s leading environmental microbiologists and comparative immunologists, Dr Belosevic has had a direct impact on improving drinking water quality and public health worldwide.
Dr Belosevic’s discoveries about the most effective way to control infectious waterborne microorganisms (e.g., Giardia and Cryptosporidium) are used to design effective water treatment facilities across North America and in Europe.
In addition, tests developed by Dr Belosevic and his colleagues are widely used by industry to detect parasites in drinking water and to ensure that our water is safe.
He is a member of editorial boards of four international journals and has served on grant selection panels of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AWWARF).
In 2008, Dr Belosevic also received the American Society of Parasitologists’ Clark P Read Mentor Award and was named a University Professor.
