Dr. Yasmeen Abu-Laban has been awarded the 2005 Associate Professor Research Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to research in Canadian and Comparative politics. This recognition is awarded to Dr. Abu-Laban for her prominence among over a hundred of her peers in the Faculty of Arts.  Dr. Abu-Laban is an internationally recognized expert in the increasingly critical areas of migration, immigration, and multiculturalism. Her growing publishing record includes an influential (co-authored) book on Canadian diversity as well as numerous articles in international journals, and book chapters in popular edited collections. While on sabbatical leave this year, she is editing an innovative collection on women and the state to be published by the University of British Columbia Press in 2006 and co-editing an original text on North American politics also appearing next year.  Dr. Abu-Laban’s extraordinary research accomplishments nourish and enliven scholarly debates, undergraduate teaching, and the graduate program both in the Department of Political Science and in the broader academic and policy communities.
