Centres and Institutes are devoted to research in areas such as international education, teacher education, literacy, early childhood education, counseling, pedagogy, mathematics, science, technology, psychology, testing, speech and deafness studies. Each Centre or Institute is affiliated with a department within the Faculty of Education.
MES is a graduate degree program for working educators, delivered via a blend of face-to-face (summer residencies) and online distance instruction.
Educational Policy Studies is a multidisciplinary department excelling in developing and disseminating scholarship that explores educational policies and practices as they pertain to leadership, society, culture, and life-long learning.
Educational Psychology excels in teaching and research in psychological studies in education; counselling psychology; school psychology; measurement, evaluation and cognition; special education; and teaching english as a second language.
Elementary Education offers expertise in subject areas such as Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Music, Physical Education, Art, and Social Studies, as well as Curriculum and Instructional Studies, Teacher-Librarianship, Teacher Education, and Early Childhood Education. The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) offers a Master of Library and Information Studies, the only program on the Prairies accredited in both Canada and the United States jointly by the Canadian and American Library Associations. The School's vision for teaching, research, and service is grounded in a multi-disciplinary focus on issues of information access and equity.
Secondary Education offers an extensive array of courses and programs in both undergraduate and graduate studies. The Faculty of Education's undergraduate Secondary Route Teacher Education Program prepares subject area specialists for all of the subject areas represented in the secondary schools of the Province of Alberta. Undergraduate Student Services administers all undergraduate program admissions, transfer credits, program information, field experiences, student counseling support, and graduation applications for the Faculty of Education. The office maintains the official Faculty record of each student's undergraduate academic program as well as the student teaching reports.
The Division of Technology in Education (DTE) is the support base for all that we do and is dedicated to providing the best possible instructional technology services in support of the instructional and research activities of the Faculty of Education.
