Research Interests

I am interested in studying child development through an ecological lens. Broadly defined, my interests and research activities centre on children’s primary relationships (i.e. family and peer) and their links to the development and maintenance of social competence in early and middle childhood as well as adolescence. Currently, through funding from the Alberta Centre for Child, Family, and Community Research (ACCFRC) and a Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grant I am investigating (1) how parent, child, and bidirectional mutuality influence children’s emotional regulation strategies and social competence with peers; (2) the influence of context on parent-child interactions; and (3) the association between emotion regulation strategies and social competence with peers.
