The Dean of Students plays an important role in defining and maintaining a healthy and respectful relationship between the University of Alberta and its students. In fulfilling this mandate, the Office of the Dean of Students:
- provides overall support and administration for University Student Services
- refers students to appropriate services and resources
- offers assistance to students who are experiencing difficulty with the University or its faculty and staff
- supplies information on appeals, grievances, and University policies regarding students
- registers and regulates student clubs and associations on campus in conjunction with the Students' Union Student Group Services
- administers the Student Engagement Grants
- is responsible for the Truth in Education (TIE) program
- oversees the Fresh Start program
