Daily Program & Grades
Program
Class hours: 8:00 to 1:00, break at 10:30 for second breakfast, 3:00-5:00 in the afternoon
Module 1 and 2
Geography, geology and history of the area, 600 B.C. to 1000 A.D.
Module 3 and 4
Choosing a site:
- field survey
- geophysical examination and interpretations
- pottery
Starting up:
- laying out the grid and trenches
- using the theodolite and total station
- measuring finds
- geophysical testing and the instruments
- the notebooks
- stratigraphy and the Harris matrix
Module 5
Excavation, geophysical and Laboratory experience by group rotation
Group breakdown is posted on all doors
Module 6
Interpretations
- chronology specific to trenches
- architecture specific to trenches
- both a) and b) in relation to the rest of the site
Friday June 15 2012: notebooks and papers due at 12:00 noon
Grading
Students will be graded on the following:
excavation technique: 30%
notebooks: 30%
forms, lab performance: 20%
interpretative essay at the end of work on the site: 20%
