Ailsa Heathcote Walker Memorial Prize

Conditions
: To be awarded annually to a student who has first class standings in HIST 260 or HIST 261 and who achieves the highest grade in either HIST 260 or HIST 261. In the event of a tie, the recipient will be chosen on the basis of the overall grade point average.
 

Barbara Fraser Memorial Prize

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Honors History programme who has written an outstanding paper in any 400-level History course. 
 

Blackley Long Scholarship in British History

: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year in the Faculty of Arts honors programme specializing in British History. Only those students who have elected to write the honors paper in British History are eligible. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing.


Doris Schuh Award in Western Canadian History
Value: $1250
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the third or fourth year of study for a Bachelor of Arts with a major in History. Selection will be based on demonstrated interest in Western Canadian History and academic standing. Recipient must not receive other awards in the field of History in the same year.

Eugene Brody Scholarship in History

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the student entering the third year of History in the Honors or BA Special programmes with the highest grade point average in the first two years; provided that first-class standing is attained.
 

Filipino Canadian Saranay Association Scholarship
Value: $1250
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts degree programme in Southeast Asian Studies. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of academic standing. Candidates for this award will be nominated by the Departments of History and Anthropology on the basis of performance in courses offered by those departments which concentrate in Philippine studies. Final selection will be made by the Student Awards Office.


George Malcolm Smith Memorial Book Prize
Value: $200 for books

Conditions: Awarded to a student of outstanding merit in Modern European History, provided that the student attained first-class standing in the course, carried a full year’s work and passed all his or her other subjects.


Gilbert Edward Sanders Memorial Scholarship
Value: $500

Conditions: To be awarded annually to students with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of a degree programme in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Western Canadian History. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and financial need.
 

Harold W. Riley Memorial Scholarship
Value: $1750
Number: 1
Conditions: Offered annually to a student of outstanding merit who has shown a special interest in the History of Western Canada, provided the student’s record is otherwise satisfactory and provided the recipient is returning as an undergraduate student in the next academic year.
 

Henry Gerrie Ward Essay Prize in Western Canadian History
Value: $350
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student who has written the best essay in any 400-level history course on a topic in western Canadian history. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing and the potential to contribute to the historiography of western Canada. In the event that two students are deemed to be of equal standing, financial need will also be taken into consideration. Endowed by Mrs. Jean Ward and family in memory of their husband and father.
 

James Barrington Prize in Southeast Asian History

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the student who attains the highest standing in Southeast Asian History.
 

John Henry Stanley Memorial Prize

Conditions: Awarded annually to a student of outstanding merit in Canadian History provided this student is taking a full year’s work and passes all other subjects. This scholarship can be awarded to a graduating student.
 

Marilyn R. Love Scholarship in History
Value: $3500 (payable over two years)

Conditions
: To be awarded annually to an Alberta resident with superior academic achievement entering the third year of the BA Honors History programme. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic standing and financial need. This award is renewable for a second year based on superior academic achievement and continuation into the fourth year of studies in the Honors History BA programme.

Morden Heaton Long Memorial Prize in Honors History

Conditions: Offered to the third year Honors student with the best record, conditional upon the student’s registration in the fourth year of Honors History.
 

Phillip Lawson Memorial Essay Prize

Conditions: To be awarded in even numbered years to a student with superior academic standings entering the third or fourth year in the Faculty of Arts majoring in History. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing and through the best written essay in British History. Preference will be given to essays involving empire or colonial issues.
 

Prairie History Medal
Value: Sterling Gilt Medal
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to a graduating student majoring in History on the basis of achievement in two full courses in Canadian History, at least one of which must be in Western Canadian History. Overall academic performance must be satisfactory to the Department.
 

Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau Prize in Canadian History
Value: $1250
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to the third-year student writing the best undergraduate essay in Canadian History. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Ross William Collins Memorial Book Prize
Value: $100 for books
Number: 1
Conditions: Awarded to a student of outstanding merit in Renaissance and Reformation History provided the student achieves first-class standing in the courses and the students other work is satisfactory.
 

Scientific Revolution Prize
Value: $500
Number
: 1
Conditions: To be awarded annually to a graduating student in Honors History for the best undergraduate Honors Thesis on any aspect of European or British Science and Medicine between AD 1500 and 1800. If no submitted essay is deemed worthy, no award will be made that year.
 

St David's Welsh Society Scholarship in Canadian History
Value: $500
Number: 1
Conditions: To be awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering any year of study for a Bachelor of Arts in the Department of History and Classics. The student must have completed one or more of the following courses: HIST 360, HIST 365, HIST 368, HIST 460, HIST 464, HIST 478. Selection will be based on academic standing in courses taken in Canadian History.

S.W. Field Prize in History
Value: $500

Conditions: To be awarded annually for the best Honors Essay by a graduating student in Honors History. A committee headed by the Honors Advisor will judge the essays.
 

Trenholme Dickson and Letita S. Dickson Prize
Value: $250
Number
: 1
Conditions. Offered to a student of outstanding merit in the field of Canadian History, provided first-class standing is attained and other subjects are passed.
