Functions of Supervisor

1. To guide and, if necessary, modify the student's program of study and research [FGSR Manual 10.05] in regard to: Course selection and language requirements;

  • The fulfilment of other program requirements;
  • The setting and supervision of written and oral candidacy examinations and any pre-candidacy requirements;
  • The supervision of the thesis and the arranging of the final oral examination.

2. To monitor the quality of the student's work and be responsible for enforcing the standards of performance in course and research work; if these fall below the required standard, the Supervisor and Supervisory Committee may recommend discontinuance or remedial action.

3. The Graduate Committee shall ensure that the Supervisor and Supervisory Committee have a formal meeting with the student at least once a year. Committee to report, either to it or to the Departmental Council, at least once a year.
