The History and Archaeology of Roman Carthage

Study trip to Carthage (Tunisia)
4-15 July 2011
This 3-credit course will be offered on location in Carthage (Tunisia) from July 4th to July 15th, 2011. Students will visit major archaeological sites in Carthage with excursions to other Roman sites and museums in Tunisia. Lectures will be given on site during the mornings; afternoons will be free for study and recreation.
Students will be housed in a tourist (i.e. comfortable but not luxurious) hotel in the Carthage area where breakfast and evening meals will be provided. Students will be responsible for buying their own lunches.
The total estimated cost for the course will be $4000, which includes:
- Airfare from Edmonton to Tunis: $2000
- University of Alberta course fee: $800 (more for non-Canadian students)
- Accommodation and food: $1000
- Transportation: $200

Official registration for the course will open on February 15th, 2011. Students interested in applying should complete the pre-registration form (editable pdf) and submit it to Dr Jeremy Rossiter at the History and Classics Department as soon as possible. Space is limited to 15 students. If necessary, priority will be given to students in Classics programs. Students accepted for registration will receive further information about the course before February 15th, 2011.
