Candidacy
The purpose of the candidacy examinations is to determine that students are ready to go on to write their doctoral theses. Students must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the examining committee that they possess:
- a broad knowledge of the discipline, sufficient to prepare the student for teaching at the university level.
- adequate preparation in the subject matter relevant to the thesis.
- the ability to pursue and complete original research at an advanced level.
