World history from the beginning of written records down to the sixth century AD. The course covers the ancient history of the Mediterranean world, with particular emphasis on Egypt, Greece and Rome and compares developments in civilization in these areas with those in Persia, India, China and Japan.

A1 Art, Architecture and History of Italy in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages
Topics will include an introduction to the cultural background and transformations of the period from roughly 400 to 750 C.E., instruction in basic art historical and archaeological technique specific to the period and a survey of the historiography on this period of transition from romanitas christiana to christianitas romana.
