31 New Nuclear Stations to Be Built in China by 2020

BEIJING, September 24, SinoCast -- China planed to make a total investment of more than CNY 500 billion to set up 31 new nuclear stations.
Totally, 65 nuclear stations are under construction or scheduled for construction around the world. The 31 stations in China account for more than 60% of the total, according to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In China, nuclear electricity accounts for around 2% of the total generating electricity capacity. An immediate goal for Chinese nuclear is to raise the operational nuclear station installed capacity to 12 million kilowatts by the end of 2010, and 40 million kilowatts by the end of 2020. The nuclear installed capacity under construction will hit 18 million kilowatts.
To achieve the goal, China need make a total investment of CNY 500 billion to set up other two 1000mw nuclear generators. Nuclear power features fuel economy, steady price, safety, and cleanness.
