Campus Recreation and Community Programs - Active for Life University of Alberta

Synchronized Swimming Club

Thinking of joining the Synchro Club?

You are welcome to swim the first few practices without charge until you have decided to
commit to the activity. Please bring swim suit, goggles (if you have them) swim cap or hair
elastics. You will need your ONE CARD to access the locker room at the West Pool.

If you were a swimmer before, you will have a lot more fun than when swimming. If you have never done synchro - Come learn!

Please note you are always welcome to join the club, even once we have the term underway.
Feel free to drop by during our swim practices or call one of the contacts below.

About the Club:

The University of Alberta Synchro Club's mission is to offer synchronized swimming for university
students at both competitive and recreational levels.  The club was created in 2006 to provide
female athletes with the opportunity to keep swimming competitively while at university.  The club
encourages recreational swimmers to try synchronized swimming with the option of competing
by offering a variety of introductory options. All levels are welcome to register.

This coming year, experienced swimmers who opt to compete in the Canadian University Synchronized Swim
League (CUSSL) will face at least 13 universities.  The league Nationals will be in Calgary, on the 4th of February and Westerns will be in Vancouver on the 21th of January.

The club calendar is adapted to fit university students including time to study for exams.
The number of practices during exam weeks is purposely decreased. The activities of the
club include synchronized swimming of up to 5.5 hours per week apart from other training
such as flexibility, swimming and weights. The season is short so you will
have time to enjoy life, study, as well as swim competitively.  Fundraising activities are also
limited so as not to interfere with the university workload.

The club is very affordable compared to other synchronized swimming clubs in Edmonton.
For the 2010-2011 season the club received pool subsidies from the Campus Recreation
Enhancement Fund (CREF) and will be able to keep costs low (see fees below). Travel club costs were
also partially covered by University grants such as the Student Union grants, Student Engagement Grant and the Student
Extracurricular  Activities Grant. We hope to receive funding again during this coming year.
