Powerlifting Club

The University of Alberta Powerlifting Association (UAPA) was established to encourage contact between individuals interested in pursuing powerlifting either for competition or for developing general fitness. The sport of powerlifting consists of three lifts: squat, bench press and deadlift. In competition the maximum weight lifted in each movement is combined to create a total. The lifter with the greatest total in a given weight class is the winner. The overall purpose of this sport is to test maximal strength for the body as a whole.

In addition to holding regular training sessions and fostering communication among fellow lifters, the UAPA is involved in organizing and hosting competitions.

Those individuals interested in learning more about the sport and our club can contact our club president Hector Aguilar at powerlifting@sports.ualberta.ca. We also encourage visiting the official website for the Canadian Powerlifting Union www.powerlifting.ca
