Smith, G. (S4) GAMBLING AND ETHICS -- Project Approved 2004-05 The purpose of this research initiative is twofold: (1) to complete a collaborative research paper on Gambling and Ethics and (2) complete the research required to produce a book on the Canadian gambling scene (which has been solicited by the University of Alberta Press). Status (Complete): The primary objectives of this grant were to produce an article dealing with the ethics of gambling and to compile research for a book dealing with gambling-related ethical issues. Both grant objectives have been achieved: (1) An article entitled “Electronic Gambling Machines: Public Policy Dilemma” co-authored with Colin Campbell has been accepted for publication in the American Behavioral Scientist and (2) a literature search and interviews with key informants from across Canada have been completed and work started on a book tentatively entitled “The Moral Maze of Gambling.” It is anticipated that a first draft will be produced by the fall of 2007.
