As the Executive Director, Vickii Williams reports to the Board of the Alberta Gambling Research Institute. She provides leadership, administers the operations of the Institute, and oversees the research grant programs and capacity-building activities of the Institute universities from the administrative hub at the University of Alberta. Ms. Williams works with the Institute's Board and Research Coordinators to plan and deliver the annual conferences and other research events including Visiting Speaker and public forums. A significant, and growing, aspect of her responsibilities is the development and implementation of inter-organizational (inter-provincial, national, and international) collaborative research initiatives.
Ms. Williams has had extensive experience working in, and with, the post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Prior to assuming her present position in July 2001, Ms. Williams' served as the Executive Assistant to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, University of Lethbridge, with special responsibility for government and inter-institutional liaison. Previously, she held the position of 'Issues Coordinator' with the Alberta Government in the System Funding and Accountability Division, Advanced Education and Career Development (now Alberta Learning). She began her career as a professional librarian with the position of Manager, Learning Resource Centre, Alberta Vocational College (now Norquest College). Her eleven years with the College included a one year secondment to serve as Director, Library and Media Services, Keyano College (Fort McMurray).
Ms. Williams holds a BA (Sociology), PD/AD (Elementary Education), MLIS from the University of Alberta, and has completed coursework in educational administration at the post-graduate level.
